Fungal Meningitis Litigation
The Merman Law Firm is investigating and helping victims of the recent fungal meningitis outbreak associated with contaminated epidural steroid injections prepare for upcoming fungal meningitis litigation. More than 100 people have confirmed cases of fungal meningitis from steroids produced by New England Compounding Center. At least 9 people have been killed by fungal meningitis from these products already. Dozens of others have suffered seizures and severe complications. The company responsible, the New England Compouding Center, has recalled all of its products and appears to have closed its doors. The company’s reaction creates the impression that it will attempt to avoid litigation and may liquidate assets in an attempt to deprive the victims of its tainted steroids from obtaining justice.
Fungal meningitis occurs when a fungus is introduced directly into or near the central nervous system – such as when contaminated steroids are injected directly into the back. The fungus then spreads through the bloodstream from the injection of the contaminated steroids directly into the central nervous system. Meningitis causes inflammation of the protective membranes and tissue covering the spinal cord and brain. Meningitis often causes brain damage, hearing loss, learning disabilities and death.
