California Chipotle Sickens 77

Sixteen employees and 60 customers have been sickened after eating at Chipotle in Simi Valley, California. So far one person has been hospitalized. Investigators are still searching for the pathogen responsible for the illness. The illnesses are associated with Chipotle products purchased and consumed on August 18 and August 19. After the outbreak was detected, the restaurant was shut down for a day of inspection and sanitation.

Inspection Details

An inspection of the restaurant on Monday, August 24, 2015 revealed several problems. These problems include unsanitary conditions on the premises, observation of flying insects, damaged walls or ceilings, an unclean restroom, and unclean equipment. This inspection was after the day of cleaning that the restaurant underwent last Saturday, August 22, 2015. The restaurant has been open since Saturday, August 22, 2015 despite the poor inspection.
