A recall has been issued by Living Tree Community Foods regarding Organic Macadamia Nuts and Organic Macadamia Butter. Both products may be contaminated by Salmonella. The Berkeley, California based company distributed these products to retail stores in California and Connecticut between 12/11/2015 and 2/3/2016. The Organic Macadamia Nuts are packaged in clear, 4 ounce plastic bags and can be identified by the lot number 153442. The Organic Nut Butter is packaged in an 8 ounce glass jar. Three lots of Butter have been affected by the recall, including 134415, 136215, and 101716. Recalled Organic Nut Butter can also be identified by the UPC 641432000987.
Again, these macadamia nut products have been recalled because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. If infected, symptoms will begin to appear within 72 hours. Usually, Salmonella infection cause symptoms including fever, nausea, abdominal cramping, diarrhea, and vomiting. Certain groups, such as the elderly, children, and those with suppressed immune systems may be at an increased risk of developing a serious infection.
